The Story Behind The Painting:

This gorgeous girl was swapping trees when the family and I came down from “Big Hill” at Tower Hill National Park in Southwest Vic.

If you have ever spent much time with koalas (assuming that your father didn’t rehabilitate them in the bathroom like mine did when we were kids) you will know that they often need a LOT of time for ‘buffering’. They pause mid-chew, or mid-movement as if they have forgotten what they are doing.

This smiley little girl did exactly that. Which was very nice of her, because it gave me enough time to pull out the camera and get some shots before she climbed the nearest tree. (I have never seen a koala look as smiley as this one before. Truly a joy to behold).

We stayed a good 4 meters away from her, so as not to scare her and she watched us as we watched her.
